Universiti Malaya (UM) has once again made the country proud, this time by breaking into the top 100 list.

According to the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University rankings for 2018 released recently, UM now ranks 87th in the world from 114th last year.

In the rankings, other Malaysian varsities also saw an improvement, with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (184th), joins the world’s Top 200.

Meanwhile, Universiti Sains Malaysia also rises to 207th position from 264th last year while Universiti Teknologi Malaysia jumps to 228th from 253rd in the world.

UM’s achievement did not come unexpected, as it had improved in the QS world rankings for five consecutive years.

In an exclusive interview with HE Today earlier this year, UM’s Vice-Chancellor Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Hashim said the university was eyeing to break into the top 100, given its experienced, talented, as well as world-class academics and researchers.

The QS World University Rankings is an annual league table of the top universities in the world.
