Universitas 21 or U21 Ranking of National Higher Education Systems has ranked Malaysia as the world’s 25th best higher education system.
This is a significant improvement of 11 places from the 36th position in 2013.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said this achievement was amid critics suggesting that the country’s higher education system could only make it to the top 25 by 2025.
“We have proven them wrong. In this year’s report, our higher education system was ranked 25th overall, which is an improvement of 11 places compared to six years ago.
“We achieved this position eight years ahead of time,” he said.
Idris believed that the collegiality and communality spirit promoted by the ministry has helped the country’s higher education system to achieve global success years ahead of its targeted period.
U21 consists of a consortium of international research universities based in Melbourne Institute of Applied Economics and Social Research, University of Melbourne.
